Let’s call this travel photography: all these pictures were taken on journeys though Europe, sometimes for leisure, occasionally for work, mostly during family holidays. They are taken by a tourist, and by a European, and by someone with a German passport. I am starting to treat these pictures as a series in order to figure out if it is possible to do both: show Europe through the eyes of a tourist, and examine how tourism shapes its destinations, embrace the beauty of a place and at the same time acknowledge the damaging effects tourism can have on places, communities, ecologies? This is overtourism – the postcard set.
